Crop Consult’s experience, understanding and success supports companies, organisations, scientists and students to be more competitive and commercially viable while increasing sustainability using best management agronomic practices.
We understand international agricultural systems and the relationship with their communities, having worked closely with scientists, organisations and agricultural operatives from India, Pakistan, Thailand, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Indonesia, Papua-New Guinea, Solomon Islands, China and USA.
We offer training for small or large groups of growers and agribusiness personnel and present workshops or seminars on conservation cropping, soil and crop management and best farming practices.
KEY PROJECT SUCCESSES
New crops
Research on guayule lines to determine rubber and biomass as well as direct seeding and harvesting trials. Research on biofuel crops such as sugar cane, bana grass, jatropha in Hawaii, and tree crops in Queensland for potential to replace petroleum products.
Conservation agriculture
Conservation agriculture projects (zero till and controlled traffic) were completed in Australia and China for increased sustainability (increased organic matter and soil moisture, reduced soil erosion). Special interests in soil biota, relay cropping and biochar as soil amendment.
Bio-insecticide & Pollinator Research
Bio-insecticide research undertaken to improve sustainability of pest control systems through targeting specific pests, encouraging beneficial parasites and predators and reducing selection for pest resistance. Pollinator research to enhance seed set and fruit quality in crops including avocado, strawberries and zucchini.
Varietal trials
Peanut varietal trials and breeding conducted for improved yield and seed coat colour. Sunflower breeding for high linoleic acid, and varietal trials in Southern and Central Queensland to determine high yielding hybrids.
Precision agriculture
A drone was used for precision weed control to discriminate hyperspectrally weeds from crop. Fertiliser trials on barley and maize using NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) to determine early crop nitrogen requirements.
Soil Testing
Crop Consult offers services in field soil sampling to determine soil type and depth, pH and nutrient composition. We offer advice on nutrient requirements for future cropping options based on expected yield potential.
